You might remember our last trip was to the wine and cheese festival, and we stayed at Rydges near the exhibition grounds.
When we got home, Rydges had offered a great deal to come back and so this is the weekend we had booked.
We booked two nights with the intention of doing pretty much nothing at all đ Of course you can do nothing at all at home, but it really doesnât feel like a holiday does it? Getting away and doing nothing just feels so much more relaxing.
We left work fairly early with the intention of getting to Brisbane for lunch. We knew we would be able to park the car and check into the hotel later.
Last time we were here, we walked up and down King Street and noticed a number of restaurants we would like to try. M particularly liked the look of âDirty Harryâsâ burger bar and that is where we had lunch.
We were a little worried that the bars might be very busy with the World Cup games and certainly the âWing Hausâ next door was very busy but Dirty Harryâs was not too bad.
We chose a booth to sit at and looked at the wall, where there were lots of pictures of people. Of course there was a number of images of Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry, but it took me a few minutes to realize that all the other people were Harryâs.
There was Deborah Harry from Blondie, Prince Harry, Harry Kewell the soccer player, Harry Grant, a rugby league, footballer , Harry Connick Junior, Harry Belafonte, Harry Stiles, Harry Potter and Harry Houdini.
Our burgers were very nice and very filling. After lunch, we checked into the hotel. (this time our room had a horse on the pillow so he got hidden away đ€Ł).
Our room was again overlooking the RNA arena, but this time we were on the corner of The building and had two windows.
They were also very cute pictures of a vintage RNA
We spent the afternoon watching TV and doing nothing.
Around dinner time we decided that we really were not hungry but we would use up our $25 food and beverage credit down at the bar.
Rydges have a nice lounge bar, and it was very pleasant having a couple of drinks before returning to our room for the evening.
We had a lovely night sleep and woke up, had showers and made our way down to the restaurant for buffet breakfast.
We really did not want to eat too much at breakfast because we had booked lunch at Montrachet restaurant for midday.
Our meal at the restaurant was just amazing. It is really nice to have a meal at a restaurant with white tablecloths, that is that a level higher than you can cook at home.
For entrée, we chose French onion soup, )which was soup of the day) and crab soufflé . Both dishes were incredible
Then for the main course, there was beef bourguignon , and the gnocchi.
We rounded out the meal with an apple tarte tatin to share.
Completely satisfied, we made our way back to the restaurant with a short stop off at Queen Amman bakery.
The plan was to just buy a couple of pastries that we could pick at if we wanted something later on in the evening and also to take home.
We chose an apricot danish and a lemon curd doughnut for me and a raspberry cruffin (cross between a doughnut and a croissant) and a lamington doughnut for him.
We did not need anything later on that evening and bought all four pastries home with us.
Sunday morning we again had buffet breakfast after our showers before packing our bags, checking out and heading home.
We got home just after lunch put a load of washing on and that was another weekend done.
Our next adventure will be in just a couple of weeks for the Brisbane Open House weekend. That weekend we are staying at the Intercontinental (formally the Brisbane Hilton)
We did enjoy our weekend and would recommend King St for some great food choices if you are in Brisbane.
This is one of our planned short “staycations” to Brisbane.Â
