Home again

Home again

Monday morning was our travel home day.

Our flight did not leave Newcastle until 12:15pm so we were able to have a slow start to the day.

I had packed most of our things the night before, so really needed to do not much more than have a shower, breakfast and relax.

We checked out at 8:30 and double checked our reservation was correct when we are back at Christmas time. We then headed to the family to say a final goodbye to the kids and leave them with the little bit of grocery items we had left over.

An uneventful drive back to the airport, dropped the car off and waited for our flight. We were on the same kind of plane as our first flight. We departed on time and arrived at Brisbane airport at 12:30pm Brisbane time.

Back to the car, and another uneventful drive home arriving at about 2:30pm

We had run the fridge right down before we left so we needed to go shopping, so we did a big shop while we had the time.

We got home, put the groceries away, did a load of washing, had dinner and crashed into bed early 🙂
We had a lovely trip and now it is time to look forward to our next trip…

the next trip away will be at the end of December and we have planned to be back in Newcastle to see the family for a couple of days and then we are off to Adelaide for 9 days.

7th Birthday Party Fun

7th Birthday Party Fun

Today, young T is having his birthday party.  It is not his birthday until later this week, but his Mum and Dad have planned a trip to Sydney to take the boys to monster trucks as a surprise.

Today’s party is being held at Parrey’s Indoor Skate Park.   He is having 10 of his friends for a 3hour fun time scootering.

It was amazing seeing how high the boys jump.  I joked to one of the Dad’s that at parents, they had forgotten to breed in fear😂😂. He laughed and agreed with me.

After the party, we had a bit of down time in the afternoon and then met the family at a local park for a picnic dinner.

Back at the motel, we organised and packed our suitcases ready for departure in the morning.

We will drop of leftover bread, milk and butter off at the family as we say our goodbyes and head to the airport for a midday flight

Saturday 7th October 2023

Saturday 7th October 2023

A quiet day today with nothing particular planned.

We spent the morning visiting and playing with the kids at a park where they could let off steam on the skate park.

There was a decision made to go out for lunch before going to BMX in the afternoon.

We were taken to the local “Club Charleston” for a lovely meal.

Beef Scallopine
Grilled Barramundi

Even though is was not very cold today, M and I decided we would not go to BMX as we were both getting over a cold and racing did not start until 4:30.

Neither of us had packed “sit in a field in the evening air” clothes đŸ˜€

We went on a bit of a drive and look around the area before making a simple dinner of toasted ham and cheese sandwiches.

A few shows on TV and an early-is night.  Tomorrow is T’s birthday party an the local indoor skate park.

A long weekend in Newcastle

A long weekend in Newcastle

We are off for a long weekend to Newcastle to visit the family.

An early 6:00am start, saw us heading down the highway to Brisbane airport for our 9:15am flight to Newcastle.

We got caught up with a bit of slow traffic around Northlakes, but it soon cleared and we made it to the airport carpark. After a bus ride to the terminal and a looooong check in queue, we made our way to the gate for a short wait before boarding our Alliance Airlines Fokker 100 to Newcastle.

It is only a 90 minute flight and the small plane is tighter than a full Virgin jet but we got there 😀

I had booked a hire car with Sixt and had booked a Kona or similar. I knew Sixt. have BMW cars in their fleet and I thought I would ask if we could have an upgrade.  I got such a lovely surprise when the nice man agreed that I could indeed have a BMW and he would do the upgrade complimentary!

It certainly makes the trip a bit easier when you don’t have to work out where everything is on the hire car.

The navigation told us that it would be a 40 minute drive to our motel, so I set a timer for 20 minutes, with the idea of finding the nearest Woolworths to do our bit of shopping before checking in.

We duly found the shopping centre at Jesmond. The centre had a number of  food outlets and we settled on pizza for lunch.  We bought some bread, milk and eggs for our breakfasts for the next few days and made our way to the Esplanade Motel in Warners Bay.

We had looked at this motel when we were here last and it is quite close to the family’s home.

We unpacked our bags and headed to see the family.  It is always great to see the little boys who are growing bigger every time we see them.

We had a lovely afternoon and dinner before making our way back to the motel. A cup of tea and a little bit of TV and we were in bed by 10:00pm quite tired after a fairly long day.
